Connection
Your connection to a Fit and
Healthy Lifestyle
Are you really tired or just dehydrated??? You know that feeling
you get during the afternoon while you are at your desk and you
can't seem to keep your eyes open? Well you may be dehydrated!
Without enough fluid in your body, your cells will start to dry
out. To quench their thirst, your cells take the fluid from the
bloodstream, which leaves your blood thick and slow. Now your heart
has to pump harder to push your blood through, which can tire you
out more than running through the bush trying to chase a moose!
This is also the time when we feel a need for a cup of coffee or
tea to "perk" up or maybe a chocolate from the corner store to give
us some energy. What we really need is a long, tall, cool drink of
water.
Some H2O facts:
It suppresses appetite naturally
Water helps to maintain muscle tone. A hydrated muscle can grow,
a dehydrated muscle can only catabolize (tear down).
Mild dehydration can slow your metabolism by as much as 3%
Lack of water triggers fatigue
A 2% drop in body dehydration can trigger fuzzy short-term
memory, trouble with math and the ability to concentrate on printed
matter or your computer screen.
Adequate water decreases risk of colon cancer, breast cancer,
and bladder cancer.
HOW MUCH SHOULD I DRINK??
You need to drink enough water, but there are various
suggestions about how much is enough. The standard answer is 8
glasses of water a day. If you're not already getting that much,
then 8 will be a big improvement. You will become healthier if you
can get closer to 12 glasses of water a day and your metabolism is
going to go UP! It seems like alot of water, and yes you will have
to go to the bathroom more often! That's the point, you will be
flushing more toxins out and helping your body be more healthy
again!
Keep a full bottle of water within
your reach throughout the day - your body will love you for it!
